Remember which pen, ink, nib, and paper actually worked.
Nib Atlas is an offline journal for fountain pen users who test different pens, nibs, inks, and papers and want to keep the best writing combinations from disappearing into memory.
Nib AtlasOffline journal
Dry time, hard starts, skipping, feathering, bleed-through, and delight stay attached to the pairing.
How it works
A practical loop for everyday writing tests.
The product is about combinations, not just collecting separate pens, inks, and papers.
Create a pairing
Select a pen, nib, ink, and default paper, then mark when the pen was inked.
Write and log
Add quick or detailed practice entries with smoothness, dry time, hard starts, skipping, and notes.
Compare behavior
Review the same ink in different pens or the same pen with different inks and paper types.
Keep the winners
Use reliability and delight history to decide what to ink again next time.
Pairings
A catalog built around active combinations.
The Pairings tab is the main place for current and archived pen setups. It can filter by pen, nib type, ink color, paper brand, active status, reliability level, and problems.
Now screen for inked pens
Shows active pairings, how many days they have been inked, recent problems, and combinations that may need attention.
Pairing detail pages
Track smoothness, dry time, feathering, bleed-through, hard starts, skipping, leakage risk, and personal delight.
Clone and compare
Duplicate a pairing with one changed element, then compare the same pen or ink across different setups.
Practices
The writing log keeps real impressions attached to each setup.
Quick notes and detailed practice entries help show how a pairing behaves over time instead of relying on a single first impression.
Trends
Scores appear only when the journal has enough evidence.
Nib Atlas hides noisy metrics when there are too few practice entries, then surfaces useful patterns from your own writing history.
Pairing reliability
A weighted score based on recent smoothness, hard starts, skipping, feathering, bleed-through, and dry-time stability.
Delight score
Average personal writing enjoyment from recent practices, converted into an easy comparison signal.
Paper friendliness
Uses feathering and bleed-through history to show which papers behave better in your own setup.
Ink volatility
Shows when an ink varies strongly across pairings, but only after enough combinations exist.
Instability flag
Warns when recent entries show repeated hard starts or elevated skipping for the same pairing.
Sample history
Optional photos of pens, inks, papers, and writing samples remain local and tied to their records.
Offline by design
No social feed, no cloud catalog, no external API.
Nib Atlas is described as a private offline iPhone utility. Core data is stored with UserDefaults and Codable, while user-added photos are saved locally with file paths stored in the models.
